Make Your Own Chocolate Tacos at Home
Tacos aren’t just for lunch or dinner. If you have a sweet tooth or a love for chocolate, you’re probably already familiar with chocolate tacos. The nutty, chocolatey ice cream is sure to satisfy your sweet tooth and even offer some nostalgia. If you’re interested in learning how to make a chocolate taco from home, check out the following recipe.
There are three parts to creating a chocolate taco. The first is the shell, the second is the ice cream, and the third is the chocolate coating. To create the shell of the taco, you will need two large eggs whites, 2/3 cup all-purpose flour, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, 1/4 cup light brown sugar, 1/8 tsp kosher salt, 1/4 cup whole milk, 2 tbsp melted butter, and 1/5 tsp vanilla extract.
When it comes to the ice cream, just pick up your favorite flavor from your local store. Any 1 pint of store-bought ice cream will work just fine. Finally, to create the chocolate coating, you will need 6 oz semisweet chocolate chips, 1 tbsp coconut oil, and chopped salted and roasted peanuts.
Start the recipe by mixing together the flour, sugars, and salts for the shell. Then, in a separate bowl, whisk the butter, milk, vanilla extract, and egg whites. Pour the mixtures together and then add butter to a small nonstick pan over medium to high heat. Once the butter starts to foam, add 1/2 cup of the batter you just made to the pan and gently swirl to spread the batter across the pan eventually. Without moving, cook the shell until it is golden. This will take about 2 minutes. Flip the shell and repeat. Once the shell is gold on both sides, remove it from the pan and fold it over the spine of a clean book. Then, let it cool. Repeat with the rest of your batter.
Once the shells are made, let your store-bought ice cream soften for about five minutes. Then spoon this ice cream into your cooled shells. Once the shells are filled with ice cream, cool them in the freezer for 30 minutes. While the ice cream-filled shells are cooling, place your chocolate and coconut oil in a heat-safe bowl and microwave it for 30 seconds at a time until the chocolate is fully melted. Let that cool for about five minutes, them remove your taco shells from the freezer and drizzle the mixture on top. Then sprinkle the peanuts on top, and you’re ready to eat!
